Whileatthisuniversity,Ms.Shanwasanoutstandingstudent,boastingexcellentperformanceinallsubjectsofherstudiesanddemonstratinggreatpotential.HeroverallGPArankedheramongthetop3inherclassof40students.ButMs.Shanwasnobookwormdevotedexclusivelytoexams.Shereadextensivelyinsubjectsoutsidehermajor,particularlyinbusinesslaw,marketing,financeandjournalism,allofwhichseemedtobefascinatingtoher.Inrecognitionofherintellectualstrengths,thedepartmentoffered,atthetimeofhergraduation,toacceptherintoitsgraduatewithoutthenormallymandatoryexaminations.She,however,turneddowntheoffer.Ahighlyindependentwoman,shealreadyhadherownagendaset.ShewantedtoobtainpracticalmanagementexperiencefirstandthenproceedtopursueaMaster’sDegreeinBusinessAdministrativeinyourcountry.Sheapparentlymadetherightdecision,forshehassincebecomeoneofourmostsuccessfulgraduatesinhercropofstudents.
Ms.ShanisgoodatcommunicatinginbothoralandwrittenEnglish.SomeofhemostimportantundergraduatecoursesweretaughtbyAmericanprofessors,manyofwhomconsideredheroralEnglishasnativeandherwrittenEnglishasstandard.IamsurethatshehassinceimprovedherEnglishalotmoreinherprofessionallife.
InMs.Shan,weallsawanoptimisticandeasy-goingcharacter.Withhighlyunusualdetermination,sheisnottobedauntedbyanydifficulties.Shebelievesthat,withhardwork,shecanachieveanythingshewants.Ithinkherconfidenceinherselfiswellgroundedinhertrackrecord,especiallywhenconsideringthefactthatsheenteredintothisuniversityasthedaughterofamostimpoverishedfamily,butgraduatedasatopstudent.
