井冈山地域内自东汉开始有人类繁衍生息，自西晋太康元年起，此地域分属庐陵郡西昌、遂川县地，随着朝代的转换和建置的不同，此地域仍分属永新、遂川和泰和辖地。
Jinggangshan,locatedinthesouthwestofJiangxiProvince,islocatedinthemiddleofLuoxiaomountainsatthejunctionofHunanandJiangxiprovinces.ItconnectsTaiheandSuichuancountiesinJiangxiProvinceintheEast,YanlingCountyinHunanProvinceinthesouth,ChalingCountyinHunanProvinceintheWestandYongxinCountyinJiangxiProvinceinthenorth.ItisthegatewayofSouthwestJiangxiProvince.Beforeliberation,therewasnoindependentcounty-leveladministrativesysteminJinggangshan.Afterliberation,underthekindcareofthePartyCentralCommitteeandtheStateCouncil,JinggangshanspecialdistrictwasestablishedinCipingin1950.In1959,JinggangshanAdministrativeBureauundertheprovincialjurisdictionwasestablished.In1981,theBureauwasremovedtoestablishcounties.In1984,thecountywasremovedtoestablishcitieswiththeapprovaloftheStateCouncil.InMay2000,theformerJinggangshanCityandtheformerNinggangcountyweremergedtoformanewJinggangshanCitywiththeapprovaloftheStateCouncil.Thecitynowhas21Townshipfarmsandsubdistrictoffices,withatotalpopulationofmorethan149700andatotalareaof1308.58squarekilometers.
Jinggangshanisatypicalmountaincity,withanaveragealtitudeof381.5metersandthehighestpeakinthecity,jiangxi'ao,atanaltitudeof1841meters.Jinggangshan,withitsglorioushistory,beautifulnaturalsceneryandrevolutionaryculturallandscape,isanidealsummerresortintegratingscenictourismandtraditionaleducation.Afterdecadesofdevelopmentandconstruction,allsocialundertakingshavebeenfullydeveloped,andthenationaleconomyisgrowing.Nomatteryesterday,today,ortomorrow,thepeopleofJinggangshanaremovingforwardwithgreatenthusiasm,sothattheworldcanclearlyseetheuniquecharmofthisredland.
